What is Preselling?

A content-rich website is a magnet for search engine traffic

. It’s one of the best ways to get people to view your site. Once those people lay eyes on your work, though, you need to find a way to turn the experience into something profitable. I recommend affiliate marketing as one of the best ways to accomplish that goal. You simply redirect that traffic to a sales page for a product with which you’re affiliated and you receive a commission for every sale made. That means you’ll need to build the most enticing and functional “bridge” ( Pre-selling Bridge) between your content and the sales page. You’ll need to give people a reason to click on the links or ads that will take them right to the “money page”.

Many internet marketers make the mistake of assuming that their targeted traffic

will naturally “follow the breadcrumbs.” They believe that if a surfer was looking for information about “buying widgets” and lands on a widget-related site that the surfer will “automatically” be sufficiently enticed by the presence of on-page advertising to check out the sales page. To some extent, they’re right. It does happen. It doesn’t happen as often as they would like, however. The result is a great, thick website that doesn’t produce the kind of affiliate sales the website owner would like to see.

You want your website and its content to decrease resistance to making a purchase, to encourage interest in a product and to make the visitor excited at the prospect of obtaining what you’re promoting. How does pre-selling work? It can take many different forms.

Great content. Great content pre-sells products. It creates an aura of credibility and a level of trust that will encourage a visitor to follow your bridge to the sales page. If you’re providing high-quality information, you are trustworthy. Your product recommendations mean more than they would coming from a page of sub-par material.

Soft sell. Pre-selling works best when informative content is structured in a way that gently steers the visitors toward making a purchase. The information isn’t a mere recitation of fact, it also serves to explain why a certain action, purchase or type of product could be a solution to the visitor’s problems. This requires a certain deftness, as heavy-handed approaches will appear to be nothing more than a sales pitch instead of information of authentic value.

Surrounding context. Your website should be organized in a way that helps to frame the products with which you’re affiliated in a positive light and that naturally encourages the visitor to make a connection between the information presented and the desirability of the product.

There are others. When it’s done correctly, the results are nothing short of thrilling. You can literally see sales figures multiply as your website becomes a more effective way of directing motivated traffic to the sales page. Are you just tossing out content on a website with a few affiliate links? Don’t expect too much. If you’re really pre-selling the right way, however, you can count on great results.
